Understanding AES/EBU Input Routing on the Behringer WING Rack
The Behringer WING Rack supports AES/EBU digital audio connections, allowing you to receive compatible digital audio signals without converting them to analog first. In this tutorial, we’ll explore AES/EBU input routing, how digital audio sources are assigned within the WING Rack, and what you need to know when connecting compatible equipment.
What Is AES/EBU?
AES/EBU, also known as AES3, is a professional digital audio interface used to transmit digital audio between compatible devices. A standard two-channel AES3 connection carries two channels of digital audio over a single digital audio link. Unlike AES50, which transports multiple channels between compatible digital audio devices, AES/EBU is commonly used for point-to-point digital audio connections.
How AES/EBU Input Routing Works
The WING Rack allows compatible AES/EBU input signals to be selected as audio sources. Once the digital signal is received, it can be assigned to the appropriate channel strips within the mixer. This allows you to integrate compatible digital audio equipment into your mixing system without requiring an additional analog conversion stage.
Important AES/EBU Connection Considerations
- Compatibility: Confirm that the connected equipment supports AES3 digital audio.
- Connections: Use suitable 110-ohm balanced digital audio cabling for standard AES3 XLR connections.
- Sample rates: Verify that the digital source is operating at a rate supported by the receiving equipment.
- Clock synchronization: Ensure the digital audio connection is synchronized correctly.
- Routing: Verify that the intended AES/EBU source is assigned to the correct mixer channel.
