When people first hear that I’m training potential sound engineers using my WING Rack using Copilot and Mixing Station, and they have a full console or compact, one of the most common questions I get asked is, “How is that the same as learning on a full console or a compact”? Well, at its core, the WING platform is not defined by the physical surface in front of you. It’s defined by the audio engine, processors, signal flow & processing architecture, and most importantly, workflow logic. Everything I just mentioned is identical across the WING Rack, Console & Compact.

Whether you’re touching a fader, clicking a mouse or using a tablet, you’re still working with the same inputs, outputs, channel strip processing, pre- and post fader insert points and bus sends, the same buses, matrices, DCAs, effects engines, and routing options. WING Edit, Copilot and Mixing Station don’t simplify the system, they give you direct access to it. In fact, this approach often creates better sound engineers. Instead of memorizing button locations, you learn how audio actually moves through the wing platform. You’ll learn how to understand the signal flow and that leads to how to build mixes intentionally, input to output, source to destination.

What You Will Learn:

• Mixing Station Pro & WING Edit: Learn to use the editor software for your computer and the mobile apps (WING-Q for in-ear monitors, Mixing Station Pro for tablets/iPads) to customize your workflow.
• Channel Strip Processing & Effects: Gain expertise in using the built-in effects, EQ, compression, gates, and inserts to craft pristine sound.
• Setup & Show Files: Understand how to set proper input gains, perform a virtual sound check, and save snapshots, channel presets, and show files.
• Recording & Playback: Explore multi-track recording using a DAW like Reaper, the 4-track USB recorder, and SD card functions.
• System Configuration: Set up static IP addresses, mute groups, monitor mixes, and effectively remove feedback, plus a host of other functions.

Course Format:

The training consists of ten to fifteen one hour zoom calls, but the training doesn’t stop until you are confident with running your mixer. These meetings are normally one hour long and they are recorded for your future reference, and screen sharing is used to provide real-time step-by-step instructions on your specific setup. You must have Zoom as well as Wing Edit installed on the same computer that you have your mixer connected to. There are no exceptions. If I can’t see your screen, then I will not be able to train you. If you are using a Mac computer, then it is your responsibility to learn how to install and connect these two apps, as I don’t use Mac computers and I have no desire to learn.
